I’m excited to have a series of Meoto Yunomi available in the March for Art Shop, part of InLiquid's annual fundraiser. With two weeks of events March 9-20, 2026. March for Art features over 200 works by our region’s foremost visual artists, a curated boutique of locally crafted jewelry and homewares, and a variety of events to engage with the artwork and support our Philadelphia arts community!
This annual art auction fundraiser splits proceeds from each sale directly with participating artists. This artist-first model ensures direct financial support for working artists while sustaining inLiquid’s nonprofit mission and broader creative community.

A yunomi is a handle-less Japanese teacup used for daily tea drinking. Over time, the tradition of making them has evolved, and contemporary artists have expanded the range of forms, departing from the traditional footed, cylindrical style.
Meoto yunomi are often given as wedding gifts in Japan: the larger cup symbolizing the “husband,” the smaller the “wife.” Such traditional pairings are rooted in systems that historically privileged men while diminishing women and, more broadly, anything perceived as effeminate, submissive, or small.
But what if we question the hierarchy embedded in those forms? Why assume that size reflects power? Why not find value in vulnerability, in interdependence, even in powerlessness?
Tradition is tricky. Sometimes the wife is taller than the husband. Sometimes the Mx’s are the same size. Sometimes one must stand alone.
So perhaps the question is simpler: why not decide to stick with love?
