These tiny works were designed to fit into a 4x4 inch cube for The Clay Studio's Annual Benefit Small Favors XV: Expanding the Field. They were inspired by music, particularly, La India and Marc Anthony's song "Vivir Lo Nuestro" and Stevie Wonder's "Knocks Me Off My Feet" played on a loop while building them.

💗 We were very fortunate to be able to celebrate The Preview Party/Artists' Reception and First Friday on 3/5 & 3/6, but regretfully, the show is currently closed to the public. I hope you have the chance to explore the collection online. It truly is a beautiful show. I am very grateful to have been invited to participate in the show. I look forward to it every year. It is an inspiring “assignment” that allows me to experiment and add an extra level of risk and preciousness to these tiny objects, leading to yearly discoveries that end up informing my entire body of work.

In accordance with orders from Governor Wolf, The Clay Studio is now completely closed to the public. This includes EVERYONE: Staff, Residents, Associates, Work Exchange, Interns, Students, and public visitors. We recognize and acknowledge the inconvenience these changes may cause. However, these decisions have been made out of concern for the health and well-being of our greater community.

In the meantime go HERE to learn more about ways you can support The Clay Studio and explore Resources for our Clay Community. There are great video tutorials and a place to explore The Clay Studio’s  permanent collection!

Small Favors XV: Expanding the Field

Mar 6th - Apr 26th, 2020

We are excited to celebrate the 15th anniversary of our annual Small Favors exhibition. The show engages artists' creativity in new and exciting ways with the challenge of making pieces on a very small scale. For some their Small Favor is similar to what they normally make on a reduced scale. Others use it as an opportunity to explore new ideas or collaborate with a colleague. Though small in scale, the artworks created for this exhibition are huge in impact.

To celebrate the 15th edition of Small Favors, and to reflect the generous spirit of the ceramics art community, we have expanded the call to include artists working in all forms of media. We look forward to the boundary crossing inspiration that is sure to ensue.

Leila Cartier, Executive Director of Craft NOW Philadelphia has agreed to act as our Guest Juror for this special edition of Small Favors. Craft NOW Philadelphia unites organizations to promote the historic and contemporary role of the city in the fields of craft and making.
